Am I a moron ? Am I living in a state of ignorance ? Do I wander the planet only seeing what i need to see ?

I sit here tonight watching BBC’s Sports Personality Of The Year wondering how this show turned from 50 “personalities” sitting in studio 4 in Shepherds Bush into a 20,000, megastar, full orchestra and Gary Linekar extravaganza, that the world and their monkey seem to be enthralled with?

As I sweat with astonishment at my cretinism, I get a jolt and i begin to think, how much have i missed. The rise of things such as SP 07, Boxing with it’s re-birth as a global sport watched and listened to, by hundreds of millions and even the phenomenon that is Peter Kaye. But it is not only what has emerged but what has dissapeared.

Top of the Pops is dead and the music industry is not too far behind. Internatonal football is in ruins both in Ireland and in England. Nothing but plastic bags can be bought for less than a euro, in fact all of a sudden everything costs a million euro. Houses are no longer homes but investments. And all of this has happened without me even realizing such levels of change were even on the cards.

I reckon I need to get in on this malarkey and start a Destruction and Creation company.

  1. I for one was glad Joe Calzage won the SPOTY and the fact that 2 boxers were in the top three “personalities” shows that one of the oldest sports is still worth watching wiether you like the sport or nat. Joe is still undefeated world champ and has been for 10 YEARS, only now have they thought to give him this recognition. He was always up against it as he’s Welsh, so a 10 year wait is pretty good!!!.
Ricky Hatton does however have a personality, cheeky northern monkey, pity he got beat. Been fun following him and he is a blue afer all ..
To be honest i really couldnt give a flying …… all these phone/text and vote programs do is get you to ring up to extract more of your hard earned cash to some big corperation thats doesnt care.
Dont get me started on the state of football… money is the route of all evil, more money brings better players, player who take the place of home nation players … just look at Arsenal, top of the league, playing cracking football and how many home nation players ??? Success is everything, its a business after all or so the keep telling us as we hand over fifty quid for a pie and a programm .. and look at the knock on effect, the international teams look lost, weighed down by there big fat wallets…. anyway mustache got to go buy presents for people i dont know and celibrate somethiing i dont beleive in. Christmas, a time for have every last cent removed from your bank account by the wonders of modern marketing …. sneaky bastards ..

  2. I agree markos on Joe coming out tops on the poll, the only way he wasn’t going to win would have been if Hatton had beaten Pretty Boy.
In terms of football i think the major problem is management and its handling of player’s ego’s. I think like in any situation were success in your field is the eventual goal, that you have to put the best available person in the position required above all else, irrespective of the national neeeds. There is no doubt that England are not short on top drawer footballers so why are they so badly under achieving?
And Mark in terms how many Home nation players in the Arsenal first team squad? 5 to be exact and in terms of their youth development, I don’t think anybody can doubt the Club’s commitment to young Home Nation Players, afterall Arsenal are one of the few remaining Home Nation owned clubs. Sawat Dee Khah! to you as they say in the boardroom in the blue part of Manchester these days.

  3. Its all change at City, i for one dont care that we have joined the long list of clubs own by overseas investers, its the only way we ever going to compete. And you just have to look at the City squad now some home nation and youth but more and more overseas classy players joining all the time. Rock and a hard place mate. Sucess is written in the history books you hardly remember who played three years later.
The international players just need to take stock of what they are actualy doing and who they represent.
Multimillionaire sportmen representing the common everyday man who he has absolutely nothing in common with and who earns more money in one week then the people who watch do in a single year needs addressing.
I want England to win but these player bitch and moan and have no understanding that they are living the ultimate dream. Makes me mad as a march hare.
LOL, knew the arsenal comment would rattle your cage, take a look at your regular first team… like i said success in everything …

Whats the point markos ? and please refer to my earlier comment “that you have to put the best available person in the position required above all else”
the fact that Wenger can have the Arse at the top of the league at a fraction of the cost, that the majority of his peers operate at is astounding.
    Darren Bent £16 mil
    Michael Carrick £19 mil
    Owen Hargreaves £17 mil
    Sean Wright Philips £21 mil
All players destined at some stage for Arsenal, all players English Internationals and all Grossly overprieced and driven by ego and greed.Which again, seems to be England’s problem.
Do you want to watch a league that struggles to compete in Europe? because as it stands they don’t!
Because if you want to watch a more Home Nation dominated game why dont you support Oldham or Stockport? and you can stand and fight the noble cause.
Or, you can relax and enjoy the best and what is becoming the most competitive league on the planet and let that Heston Blumenthal looking Italian sort out the mess that is England.
It is a modern world Mark, Sure look I am talking to you and you are in New Zealand.

  5. But we do struggle in Europe an english team has only won it twice since the prem began 15 years ago !!! The records of italian and spanish clubs in the CL are brilliant in comparison and they always have a large number of home nation players. Italy won the world cup with a league containing far fewer foreign player compaired to the prem.
And as for Arsene running a tight ship whats the point if you have the money??? arsenal have only won the prem 3 times to ManUres 9 and guess who spent the most money in that time??? chelski have won it twice in the past 3 years for heavens sake look what they spent, and blackburn were the first of the big spenders to win the prem, what could arsenal have done if they’d have spent just a little more ?
It seems like i’m arsenal knocking but i’m not i like the club more because of the likes you and Leo Sian Aido etc, Arsene is brilliant at what he does but i feel you’re an Arsenal fan and thats were it ends… funnily enough my first live game was at Oldham when i was at primary school and thats were my roots start i love City i love football i can can watch any game in any league even the one i play in in NZ and i dont mind, i play every week and i guess the my my love of the full spectrum of football is different to yours. The england team situation frustates me as it is a knock on effect from the domestic game but too many poeple who are not english hold too much power and money and quite frankly dont care. Fergies Scotish, Arsenes French, Rafa Spanish, Avrams Isralie, Svens Swedish, Moyes Scotish, O Neills N Irish the list goes on but thats the top 7 clubs as we stand these guys dont give a toss as long as their business is doing well, England is irrelavent. Keeps coming back to the best man for the position but at what cost to club, country, club identity and most of all the fan.
